Preparing For Your Session
Horse Preparation
You will want your horse to look it's best for the portraiture session. Decide what you want in your pictures; your horse turned out for a show with a fresh clip and tight braids or a relaxed summer-feel with a flowing mane. Whichever vibe you choose your horse should be bathed, groomed and ready the morning of your photoshoot. Don't forget to use hoof oil and wipe the eyes, it's the little things that count!
Human Preparation
If you will be joining your horse in the portraiture sessions you will want to be turned out as nicely as your horse. Remember to leave enough time for you to get ready, but make sure all your horses cleaning is done beforehand. There's nothing worse than dirt marks on a clean shirt! but don't worry, I can always edit them out ;-)
Location Preparation
Black background sessions are general done in the entrance to a barn which is able to have a dark background, such as the rear door being closed or the aisle windows closed.
Sweep the floor where the horse will be stood and ensure feet are picked before arriving to the area.
The area where the photos will be taken will need to be cleared of any stable equipment, brooms, tack and random barn things.
On the Day
The key to good poses is a calm owner/handler and small movements. Some of the best pictures are captured when the horse and handler are not trying, so don't worry if your horse is not cooperating, we will get the shots needed eventually.
Say hello.
Let's work together.
